Refined Elgin watch with a white enamel dial. It features an hour ring in black Arabic numerals, and an outer ring in red Roman numerals and black dots for the minutes.
The sub-second dial is at six o'clock. The hands are made of blued steel.

The movement is delicately hand-engraved and features a lever escapement.

The case is marked Illinois Watch Case Co. "The Winner". It was one of the largest case manufacturers in the United States. It also operated under the name Elgin Giant Watch Case Co. starting in 1910 with the original intent of selling to foreign markets. Itgenerally marked its cases in the following way (there may be exceptions):

Open Face Screw Back and Bezel: Full assembly serial number stamped around the dial rim.
Swing-Ring: Some cases feature the assembly number engraved in Roman numerals on the ring around the movement in several positions. This has been observed with the last four digits represented and the full serial number. Later cases are stamped with a full assembly serial number around the dial rim, similar to other company case styles.
Hunting: Hunting cases are sometimes marked with an assembly number on the back rim of the case center, usually with the last three, four, or five digits of the case serial number. Later cases are marked with the full serial number around the back rim. On earlier cases, this marking appears next to the hinge around the 8:00 position. On later cases, this marking appears closer to the 9:00 or 10:00 position. Some cases are seen with assembly codes in a stacked vertical layout rather than linear, especially later in production.
The primary mark is generally positioned in the center of the case back with the serial number just below, in a slight "U" shape. Some serial numbers on mass-produced nickel cases are seen with a straight serial layout, which usually indicates single-digit punching procedures.
Serial numbers extend to approximately 9,310,000. However, with lower serial numbers recycled and used on nickel cases, total production was likely higher than this number suggests.
