Our History

THE FOUNDER, PASSION AND EXPERIENCE

In 1996, I decided to turn my passion into a profession by founding a company dedicated to the trade of antique jewelry, watches, valuables and precious stones.

I am active in mediation and analytical appraisal of precious objects, also providing legally recognized reports on the value and age of precious goods but I am also the owner of the company Roberto Borghesi doo, which operates in the wholesale and retail trade of investment gold and diamonds, vintage and antique jewelry, silverware, rare watches and collectibles. This company, based in Slovenia, often participates in important international auctions.

My expertise is regularly requested by various regional authorities – both public and private – by law enforcement agencies, courts, the Municipality of Trieste, the Civic Museums and auction houses in the region.

I frequently collaborate with the Municipality of Trieste and the Department of Culture for the analysis and evaluation of precious objects and I was the curator of a charity initiative promoted by the Municipality of Trieste, “Trieste Distratta”, in which I provided the evaluation of a large collection of antique and period objects, dating from 1938 to 2000, from the state agency for lost objects.

I have been involved in exhibitions and cultural events for 25 years; in December 1996, I launched the first edition of “Buy or Bid”, an auction-style event for the promotion and sale of precious objects, silverware and watches offered to the public with a counter-offer system. The event, held twice a year, has become extremely popular, with around a thousand lots offered for sale for each edition, entrusted by public and private bodies, institutions and individuals.

Since 2006, I have been President of the Association of Antique Dealers of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and I am the curator responsible for the quality and selection of exhibitors at TriesteAntiqua. I personally supervised the organization of the edition held with great success in the Scuderie del Castello di Miramare, contributing to the promotion of the gardens of the Castle, a historical site linked to the royal family of the Habsburgs, so dear to the people of Trieste.

I was a curator for the State Archives, providing professional analysis and appraisals of the valuable assets owned by the Treasury; I subsequently appraised and restored the judicial deposits that belonged to the Austrian administration and were transferred to the Italian government after World War I. Based on my appraisal work, I supervised the organization of an ad hoc exhibition, “A Treasure Found: A Precious Austrian Heritage in the State Archives of Trieste,” held at the Museo del Canal Grande – Palazzo Gopcevich – in Trieste.

I am an investment consultant for the city press and industry publishers, offering my expertise in investing in gold coins, precious metals and watches.
